Master your Mindset – 3 Effective Techniques

These days, everywhere you go, people are advising one thing – ‘Master Your Mindset’. I have encountered so many courses and books on mastering your mindset. Every writer, speaker, teacher or influencer has a different way to master your mindset. These many number of resources can be overwhelming and confusing as well.

I am a dedicated personal growth follower because of which, I have experimented with many of these mindset shifting techniques. I want to share with you 3 techniques that actually worked. These techniques have radically changed my life and I have seen clear results in my life. I will take you through each technique, how to actually implement it and my results with each one of them.

The Gifts of Imperfection by Brene Brown.

Concept

Each one of us has various goals in life, the things we want to accomplish. These goals can be related to our personal life, professional life or social life. These goals make their way to our to-do lists. Are you with me on this?

In her book, The Gifts of Imperfection, Brene talks about making another list – A list of joy and meaning. I urge you to do this exercise as you read along. Take a pen and paper, sit down in calm and think of what a joyous life would look for you. What would you be doing if you lived a blissful life! This list contains the ingredients of joy and meaning.

Now compare your to-do (or to-accomplish) list with the list of joy and meaning. You are likekely to observe gaps in your ambition and happiness. Now it is for you to decide what changes you want to bring about in your life.

Action

I am a very prcactical person and cannot deal with extrimities and so, scrapping off my goals list was not a good idea for me. This is how i found a two step process to shift my mindset towards a blissful life. Here are the two simple steps –

  1. Write down a list of things that bring you joy and compare it with your goals list.
  2. Every single day, when you write your to-do list, make sure to have more otems that resonate with your joy and meaning list.

Results

I want to share with you the difference in my to-do list. It is incredible how my priorities shifted and that miproved my overall mood, relationships and efficiency.

Goals List
  • Get promoted as a business analyst
  • Buy a new laptop
  • Write 1 blog post every week
  • Loose belly fat
  • Go on a trip with my best friend
Joy and Meaning List
  • Taste different cusines
  • Do self care rituals with my best friend
  • Have new experiences
  • Write everyday
  • Spend time with family and friends

My to-do lists are more focused on the later list and that makes my days 10 times happier, joyful and blissful. Master your mindset by choosing the right daily tasks.

Podcast – Episode 79, Unconventional Life with Jules Schroeder featuring Jake Ducey

Concept

Jake Ducey elaborates his morning routine in this episode and that is life changing. Here are some facts that he gives to support his concept. A human mind has 65000 thoughts in a day out of which 95% are subconcious. This means we only have control over 5% of our thoughts and the rest is pre-programmed. He has given out an amazing quote during this podcast-

“Most humans are living out of reaction rather than creation”.

So here’s the deal, we live our lives based on the programming of our mind. What can we do about it? Well, we can program ourselves. What Jake Ducey says here is that we are continuiously brainwashed in our lives. And here’s another quote by him-

“Brainwash yourself before the worl brainwashes you.”

He writes down his statements repetatively in his morning routine. The basic concept here is to use repetation to program your mind.

Action

Here is what you can do to incorportate this ritual in your morning routine –

  1. Brainstorm your visions.
  2. Write these visions as it is in present. (It can be similar to the affirmations or visualization techniques used in the law of attraction practices).
  3. Write these statements atleast 10 times every single day in the morning.

This shifts your focus for the day from all the negative energies towards your visions and the feeling of contentment.

Result

I started writing one statement 10 times a day and did it for a month straight. I wanted to master my mindset to get a good job. A month later, I had an offer letter from one of the best companies to work at. The best part was my job profile which was exactly the same profile I wanted to start my career with.

Stream of Consciousness

Concept

Lavendaire has use the concept of Stream of Conciousness to start her morning routine ritual. Stream of conciousness means writing down anything and everything you feel or think. This gives you a deeper insight into your own mind and though process.

If you ever visit a psycologist, all they want to do is get deeper into you thoughts and help you realise your short comings. Stream of conciousness is the DIY version of this concept. You can master you mindset by understanding yourself better.

Action

I do not necessarily do this ritual every single day or every morning. If you have a shortage of time like me, you can pracice stream of conciousness in these situatons-

  • When you are feeling upset.
  • If you are confused or indecesive.
  • When you are overwhelmed by all the things going on in your life.

You will see a great difference after every session. The thoughts start to flow which helps you get clearer vision.

Result

I was recently faced by a life changing decision and I was overwhelmed. During that phase, I did a half hour session of stream of conciousness and having all my thougts on paper was liberating.

I read through my journal the next day, highlighted the pros and cons but the best part was finding those sentences which showed me what decision I wanted to take subconciously. I felt closer to myself (if that is possible) and I have never been more happier.
